Rothesay Wins 2010 Lord Mayor’s Cup

May 24th, 2010

The thrilling horse racing action in the Sunshine State continued over the weekend as the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival headed into the prestigious Doomben Cup Day.

With the winning performance by Metal Bender in the headlining Group 1 Doomben Cup (2020m) dominating the news, the Group 3 Lord Mayor’s Cup (1615m) also drew attention once it jumped at 3pm.

The event saw the young Rothesay outclass an older filed as the three-year-old colt proved his worth in the home straight, after sitting three back in the field for the majority of the race.

Trained by Gerald Ryan, Rothesay will now head into the Group 1 Queensland Guineas as a favourite.

Also taking place on Saturday was the Group 2 Champagne Stakes (1200m) and the Group 3 Doomben Roses (2020m).
