2011 Lord Mayor’s Cup Form Guide

May 19th, 2011

The 2011 Lord Mayor’s Cup will be a very exciting contest and for punters it could be one of the best of the day.

There is no clear favourite meaning good value across the board and with only eight runners your chances of finding a winner aren’t too bad, especially if you use the Lord Mayor’s Cup form guide.

There are four New Zealand horses in the field with three of them crossing the ditch specifically for the Brisbane Winter Carnival.

Kiwi horses are always dangerous and a little tricky to read but if they get it right they’ll prove a real handful for the Aussies.

Consistency is an area really lacking for a lot of these runners with recent results all over the place both here and in NZ.

It’s a crucially important event for any looking to kick start a successful carnival and it’s the perfect contest to run into a bit of speed.

Firebolt was a favourite last week but faltered so the majority of the pressure is probably on him.

A horse with very little pressure is St Germaine which sneaks into the field on the back of a last start win in NZ and looks to have found another gear in 2011 and could prove very dangerous.

2011 Lord Mayor’s Cup Form Guide

#1 – Our Lukas (Barrier – 8 ) (59kgs)

  • Trainer: Robert Heathcote
  • Jockey: Larry Cassidy
  • Career Stats: 46s – 12w – 10p
  • Last Start: 7th at Gold Coast

Very disappointing last start in the Hollindale with no sign he was going to run like that. Finished second behind Scenic Shot the race previous and needs another run like that.

#2 – Snow Alert (Barrier – 7) (59kgs)

  • Trainer: Chris Waller
  • Jockey: Michael Rodd
  • Career Stats: 33s – 7w – 9p
  • Last Start: 6th at Scone

Been consistent but consistently mid-field. Never runs a bad race but doesn’t seem to have the class at this level. Very honest horse but will be running for third at best.

#3 – Tagus (Barrier – 2) (59kgs)

  • Trainer: John P Thompson
  • Jockey: Dwayne Dunn
  • Career Stats: 40s – 9w – 9p
  • Last Start: 6th at Gold Coast

Struggled in a big field last start but can maybe be forgiven seems it was his first run in Queensland. Looked a lot better when 3rd at Randwick before that so another place hope.

#4 – Firebolt (Barrier – 5) (59kgs)

  • Trainer: Roger James
  • Jockey: Hugh Bowman
  • Career Stats: 29s – 7w – 8p
  • Last Start: 10th at Doomben

This horse is either on or off and last weekend he was well and truly off as the favourite. Don’t know if there were too many excuses either, punters might give him another chance but he’s far from a certainty.

#5 – Informality (Barrier – 4) (59kgs)

  • Trainer: Alicia Willick
  • Jockey: Jim Byrne
  • Career Stats: 24s – 7w – 1p
  • Last Start: 12th at Gold Coast

Seems to be struggling a lot lately and can’t see why anything would change here. Has barrier four so might be closer but won’t be close enough to win.

#6 – Danagaze (Barrier – 3) (59kgs)

  • Trainer: Lawrie Mayfield-Smith
  • Jockey: Corey Brown
  • Career Stats: 12s – 5w – 4p
  • Last Start: 3rd at Gold Coast

First up this year he won at Doomben and backed it up with a third last start. Class is a massive jump from barrier three he’ll be ready to launch from mid-field.

#7 – Atom Cat (Barrier – 6) (59kgs)

  • Trainer: Graham Richardson
  • Jockey: James McDonald
  • Career Stats: 26s – 8w – 7p
  • Last Start: 10th at Te Repa

Interesting horse that is far more consistent than Firebolt but was beaten eight lengths to him last start. Horse loves the distance but probably not against a field like this.

#8 – St Germaine (Barrier – 1) (57kgs)

  • Trainer: John Sargent
  • Jockey: Jonathon Riddell
  • Career Stats: 21s – 4w – 7p
  • Last Start: 1st at Hastings

Started up with a second in 2011 then ran first last start in NZ. Been running in a much lesser grade but this mare is on the improve. Up against it but from gate one she’s a hope.
