2016 Lord Mayor’s Cup Field and Barrier Draw

A talented and capacity field of fifteen has been confirmed in the final field for Saturday’s 2016 Lord Mayor’s Cup (1615m) at Doomben Racecourse; highlighted by some of the Brisbane Winter Carnival’s standout racehorses.

Chris Waller will launch a multi-pronged on the Group 3 race in Brisbane after confirmed both Amovatio and Kool Kompany in the 2016 Lord Mayor’s Cup field.

Amovatio has returned to racing in smart form this time and will relish the conditions of the 2016 Lord Mayor’s Cup on Saturday, particularly from the central barrier 8.

Posting nine wins and a further thirteen minors through thirty-five career starts so far, Amovatio returned from a freshen-up for success in the Group 3 Hawkesbury Gold Cup (1600m).

Having run a close second in the Listed Scone Cup (1600m) a fortnight ago, the Al Maher gelding has been confirmed to be partnered by apprentice hoop Rory Hutchings.

While yet to find peak condition through five starts in Australia since arriving in spring last year, Kool Kompany should relish a step-back in class amongst Brisbane company in the Lord Mayor’s Cup.

Worthy Cause has been the stable star for Sunshine Coast trainer John Zielke through recent seasons and carries typically smart from into the Lord Mayor’s Cup.

Capping a 2015 Brisbane Winter Carnival campaign fifth in the Group 1 Queensland Derby (2200m), the Choisir entire was set on a Melbourne spring campaign; running seventh in the Group 2 Bobbie Lewis Quality (1200m) before taking out the Listed Paris Lane Stakes (1400m) on October 4th.

Running fourth in the Group 3 Moonga Stakes (1400m) and fifth in the Group 2 Crystal Mile (1600m), Worthy Cause returned to Queensland after placing third in the Group 3 Eclipse Stakes (1800m) on November 14th.

Having run third in the Listed Bernborough Handicap (1615m) and fourth in the Magic Millions Trophy (1800m) in a brief summer campaign, Worthy Cause resumed this time for second in the Listed Sunshine Coast Ascot Handicap (1200m) before placing fourth in the Listed Prime Minister’s Cup (1400m) on May 7th.

Mighty Lucky has returned to racing in typically slick form this time and could very well receive the run of the race in the Lord Mayor’s Cup from the ideal barrier 6.

Winning each of the Listed Festival Stakes (1500m) and Group 3 Summer Cup (2000m) most notably through a strong spring and summer campaign, the Casino Prince gelding resumed this time for a classy win over talented company in the Royal Randwick 100 (1400m).

Progressing to second in the Hawkesbury Cup, Mighty Lucky placed sixth in the Scone Cup last time out and should lay a good account for himself with regular hoop Chris O’Brien in the saddle.
